Lovegra 100mg contains 100mg of sildenafil, the same drug found in Viagra. It is marketed for women and is sometimes described as a female version of Viagra. The tablet itself is ordinary sildenafil.

Sildenafil is not licensed for women

Sildenafil is not licensed anywhere for sexual dysfunction in women. Its only licensed sexual use is for erectile dysfunction in men. Sildenafil is also licensed for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a blood pressure condition in the lungs that has nothing to do with sexual function.

What the studies showed. Sildenafil has been studied in women. The results of these studies were not consistent. Some studies have indicated that there is no significant improvement in overall sexual function with sildenafil. No regulator has approved sildenafil for this use in women. This is due to the results of these studies, not as the result of an oversight in the approval of the drug.

The safety rules apply regardless. Sildenafil should never be combined with nitrates such as glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide or amyl nitrite, because the resulting drop in blood pressure can be fatal. The maximum dose remains 100mg in twenty four hours.

Side effects. These are the same as in men: headache, flushing, indigestion, a blocked nose, dizziness and changes to vision. Sildenafil lowers blood pressure throughout the body, which is what produces the dizziness and the flushing.

Common questions

Is there a medicine approved for low sexual desire in women?

In the United States, another drug has been approved for premenopausal women who have low sexual desire. This drug is called flibanserin and is sold under the brand name Addyi. Unlike sildenafil, flibanserin works in the brain chemistry of the woman rather than improving blood flow. The benefit from flibanserin is small; in clinical trials, about ten women had to be treated with flibanserin for one woman to experience a beneficial effect.

Is Lovegra licensed in Europe?

Lovegra is not licensed as a medicine in the European Union or the United Kingdom. Sildenafil is licensed in Europe, but only for erectile dysfunction in men and for pulmonary arterial hypertension. There is no licensed sildenafil product for female sexual dysfunction in any country.

What causes low desire or difficulty with arousal?

Many things, and most of them are unrelated to blood flow. Relationship factors, stress, depression, the menopause, thyroid problems and the side effects of other medicines, including antidepressants, can all contribute. Each is worth discussing with a doctor, because a cause that can be addressed is more useful than a tablet aimed at the wrong mechanism.

What is the difference between Lovegra and Kamagra?

Both are sildenafil made in India and both contain 100mg. Neither is licensed as a medicine in the European Union. The only real difference is the marketing, with Lovegra aimed at women and Kamagra at men. The tablet inside is the same drug at the same strength.
