What is baclofen 10mg used for?
Multiple sclerosis. Spinal cord injury and spinal cord disease. Cerebral palsy. The target for these conditions is spasticity, meaning muscles that are tight and possibly spasm on their own. In the UK, baclofen is the first medicine to be used for spasticity in multiple sclerosis.
How it's taken. Treatment starts with a low dose. Commonly, the starting dose is 5mg three times a day. The dose increases every three days until the spasticity eases. Most people find relief between 40mg and 80mg a day, split into separate doses. 80mg a day is the ceiling dose for most adults.
Never stop baclofen suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause hallucinations, seizures, fever and worsening spasticity. Any reduction of baclofen should be gradual and carried out under the care of your doctor.
Side effects of baclofen 10mg. The most common side effect is drowsiness, especially when first starting the drug or after increasing the dose. Other side effects include dizziness, nausea and weakness. Driving is not recommended until you know how the drug affects you.

How long does baclofen 10mg take to work?
Not immediately. While there can be some easing of the spasm within hours of taking the first doses, the useful effect takes a while to develop as the dose is increased over several days and weeks. It is too early to judge the drug after only two days of taking it.
Is Lioresal 10 mg the same as baclofen 10mg?
Yes. Lioresal is the original brand name for baclofen, which is the generic name. The active ingredient and the strength are identical. Cost and the look of the tablet are usually the only differences between the two products.
Can you stop taking baclofen 10mg suddenly?
No, and this is more important than with most tablets. Stopping baclofen suddenly can cause a withdrawal reaction with hallucinations, confusion, seizures and rebound spasticity. Ask your doctor about slowly reducing the dose instead.
