What is amoxicillin 500mg used for?
Bacterial infections, mainly. Chest infections and pneumonia, ear infections, dental abscesses, urinary tract infections and those stomach ulcers caused by H. pylori. Amoxicillin is also a common first choice for treating ear and chest infections in children, though not the only one.

Amoxicillin 500mg side effects. Up to 1 in 10 people will experience nausea, diarrhoea or a rash. These are unpleasant but rarely dangerous side effects. There are some that warrant a call to your doctor, such as if you experience diarrhoea with blood or mucus, yellowing of the eyes and skin, pale stools and dark urine or unexpected bruising. These side effects can take up to two months to manifest after taking the medication.

Is amoxicillin penicillin, and is 500mg the same thing?
Yes. The same family, a close chemical relative of the original. Let your prescriber know if you have been labelled as having an allergy to penicillin.
