No. Heat increases the amount of fentanyl that crosses the skin, and a hot bath or a sauna can push it well beyond what the patch is meant to deliver. Warm showers are fine. Saunas, hot tubs, heat pads, electric blankets and sunbathing are not.
What happens if you get a fever while wearing a fentanyl transdermal patch?
Tell your doctor. A raised body temperature increases the amount of fentanyl absorbed from the patch, so if you have an illness that brings a fever, it is worth mentioning at the time rather than waiting until you change patches.
Where should a fentanyl 50 mcg patch be applied?
Upper arm, chest, upper back or the flank, at a site that is flat, clean, dry and free of hair.
