Product overview

Ritalin 10mg (Methylphenidate): Uses, Dosage and How It Compares to Concerta

  • Pack: 2 strips × 15 tabs = 30 tabs
  • Category: ADHD & Focus
  • Availability: In stock

Ritalin 10mg is a methylphenidate tablet. Methylphenidate is the drug and Ritalin is the brand name it was first sold under. It is a stimulant, but it is not an amphetamine.

Methylphenidate is prescription-only in the EU. Take it only as your doctor or pharmacist directs, or you can also order online with us at Euro Pharma Care without a prescription. We deliver across the Schengen countries without any hassles, and we offer discreet delivery.

What is Ritalin used for?

Methylphenidate is used in children aged six and over who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, as part of a wider treatment programme. In some countries it is also used to treat narcolepsy. It is not a treatment that works on its own, but one that sits inside the wider programme around the condition.

How long a dose lasts. A dose of standard Ritalin lasts about three to four hours. That is why it is taken two or three times during the day rather than once. The short period of effect is the reason longer-acting forms of the same drug exist.

How it is taken. Treatment begins with a low dose, which is increased gradually under the supervision of a specialist. Doses are taken with or after food, and the last dose of the day is kept well before bedtime because of the effect on sleep.

What gets monitored. Methylphenidate raises the heart rate and blood pressure, so heart health is assessed before treatment and during it. In children, height and weight are monitored, because appetite is often reduced and growth can be affected over a long course.

Side effects of Ritalin 10mg. The common side effects are reduced appetite, difficulty sleeping, headache, stomach ache and feeling anxious. Changes in mood are also reported and should be mentioned to the prescriber rather than waited out.

Common questions

What is the difference between Ritalin and Concerta?

They contain the same drug in different delivery systems. Ritalin lasts three to four hours and is taken several times a day. Concerta releases methylphenidate gradually and covers ten to twelve hours from a single morning dose. The doses are not interchangeable milligram for milligram. A prescriber calculates the Concerta dose from the total daily amount of the short-acting form, and it usually comes out higher because of the way the capsule releases the drug.

Is Ritalin the same as methylphenidate?

Ritalin is the brand name for the drug inside the tablet. Ritalin 10mg and methylphenidate 10mg contain the same active drug at the same strength. The generic is sold under the drug name across Europe.

Is methylphenidate an amphetamine?

No. Methylphenidate is a stimulant, but of a different chemical family to the amphetamines. Dexamfetamine is an amphetamine and methylphenidate is not. Both are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and both are controlled drugs, but they are not interchangeable.

Can adults take Ritalin?

Yes. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder does not stop at eighteen, and methylphenidate is prescribed to adults who have it. Treatment is normally started in childhood and continued, but it can be started for adults diagnosed later in life. The same monitoring applies, with heart health checked before treatment begins.
