When the pill on the market is considered dangerous enough by the Dutch testing service DIMS, a Red Alert is issued for that product. DIMS issued a Red Alert in December 2023 for a beige and gold pill stamped Audi. The MDMA content of the pills averaged over 300 milligrams per pill, and DIMS stated that taking such amounts can be life-threatening.

Ecstasy pills contain on average 138mg of MDMA according to tests performed by DIMS in 2023. Half of all pills contained between 117 and 163mg of MDMA. Pills with 300mg of MDMA contain more than twice the average amount of MDMA. The EU Drugs Agency has found that taking a dose of 300mg of MDMA has resulted in fatalities, though the susceptibility of the individual to the effects of MDMA and the circumstances of use can play a significant role in whether those fatalities are observed.

A stated figure is what is stated by the seller regarding the contents of the pill. The Audi alert is based on what DIMS tested inside one ecstasy pill. These are two different statements and only the second will set off the alert.

Ecstasy pills represented 58% of all the pills submitted to DIMS in 2023. On average, ecstasy pills cost 4.10 euro per pill, with half of all ecstasy pills priced between 4 and 5 euro.

The effects reported by DIMS include a feeling of intimacy, energy and euphoria. According to the EU Drugs Agency, the effects are heightened sensory awareness with mild stimulation of the central nervous system. The terms empathogenic and entactogenic were coined to describe the socialising effect.
