Quetiapine 200mg: Side Effects, Monitoring and What Gets Checked

  • Pack: 3 strips × 10 tabs = 30 tabs
  • Category: Mental Health
  • Availability: In stock

Quetiapine 200mg is a mid-range dose. It sits above the doses used off-label and below the full treatment dose for most of the conditions quetiapine is licensed for. In the standard build-up it is the dose reached on the third day.

Quetiapine is prescription-only, but you can also order online without prescription from Euro Pharma Care, we offer fast delivery at your doorstep. To order online, kindly press the WhatsApp or Signal button to place an order.

The effects on metabolism

Weight gain is the side effect people notice most from quetiapine. It can also raise blood sugar and blood fats in some people. Those effects are the reason weight, blood glucose and cholesterol are checked before treatment starts and periodically during it.

The everyday side effects. Drowsiness is common and strongest in the first weeks and after any increase in dose. Dizziness when standing up is due to the drug lowering blood pressure, and it is worst early in treatment. Dry mouth and constipation are also common.

Heart rhythm. Quetiapine can affect the electrical rhythm of the heart. That matters most if you are also taking another medicine with the same effect, or if you have a heart rhythm problem. Let any prescriber know that you are taking quetiapine before starting anything new.

Not for older people with dementia. Antipsychotics should not be given to older people with dementia for behavioural symptoms. Studies found a higher rate of death in that group compared with people given a dummy tablet. Quetiapine is not licensed for that use.

Common questions

What gets monitored while taking quetiapine?

Weight, blood sugar and blood fats are checked before treatment and at intervals during it. Blood pressure is monitored early on, because it can drop when standing up. Patients with diabetes, or with a family history of it, are monitored more closely on the blood sugar side.

Does quetiapine cause weight gain?

Not in everyone, but in enough people that it is monitored as a matter of routine. It is more likely at the beginning of treatment and at higher doses. Diet and activity make a difference, and the prescriber should know if weight is climbing rather than finding out at a later review.

Does quetiapine make you drowsy during the day?

Often, especially at the start. The sedation is strongest in the first few weeks and after each increase, and it can carry into the day. Taking the dose in the evening helps while the body adjusts. Driving should be deferred until you know how it affects you.

What is the difference between quetiapine 100mg, 200mg and 300mg?

The 100mg tablet is usually a step during the build-up, or a dose used off-label. The 200mg sits in the middle. The 300mg is a full treatment dose for bipolar depression and falls within the effective range for schizophrenia. All contain the same drug, and which one a person takes depends on the condition being treated and how far through the build-up they are.
